MVC President's Reflection on Veteran's Day.

MVC President's Reflections on Veterans' Day

On November 11th of each year the country honors veterans of the armed forces. In the United States, it is called Veterans Day and in Canada it is Remembrance Day. In both countries it is a day to recognize and thank the Veterans among us.

We should accept the recognition and thanks. However, we need to do more than that. We need to be a visible presence at Veterans’ Day events and in our community year-round. Wear a veteran’s cap, use the military salute when saluting the flag, etc. Let people know that you are a veteran and that you are still contributing to the well-being of our country. Let them know that even though you no longer serve in the military, you still serve.

For too long after Vietnam, society refused to recognize our value and commitment to service. Now we have begun to take our rightful place in society. People thank us for our service even though the majority of them have no idea what that means.

It is our responsibility to tell our stories so they can learn from us. Let your family, friends and community know that you are a proud Veteran.  With the number of Veterans decreasing since there is no longer mandatory service, we need to pass on our experiences so that they better understand the value of Veterans.

Thank you for your service both in the past and today.

A message from the MVC President

Although Covid isn’t in the rearview mirror YET, the vaccine is having a positive impact and hopefully soon we will be back to normal.  Moving in that direction. . .

We are hosts for the Tri-Chapter Rally (June 27th, arrival, to July 1, departure) in Gillette prior to the FMCA National Convention. These Tri-Chapter Rallies have been so much fun, you won’t want to miss this repeat event.  The cost of the rally is $300 for two people in a coach. You can see more details AND register here https://mvc-fmca.weebly.com/events.html.  The Rally is at the same location as the Convention. You can make arrangements to stay at the CAM-PLEX through to the start of the Convention on July 7th through the FMCA office & registration.

We will be holding our annual meeting at the Convention in Gillette. This is an election year. If you like how the chapter is operating and want to see it continue or if you think that the chapter needs to take on new activities, run for office and help the chapter. Contact Marty McMahon at memmjr@gmail.com

The Chapter has made financial contributions to three organizations that support veterans.

·         American Legion Post 178 in Grove, OK nominated by Lyanna McKenney. They support Veterans with food, clothing, housing, funeral expenses, transportation etc. Their most recent project was to repair a World War II veteran’s home so he could continue to live independently.

·         Strait Ministries nominated by Richard Strait. They support Veterans by providing assistance, seminars, and classes to Veterans and their families who are struggling with the impacts of war and PTSD.

·         Mutts with a Mission nominated by Melody Thomas. They train dogs for Veterans, wounded warriors and first responders who have experienced line-of-duty injuries or PTSD.

I believe that our support of these organizations will bring relief to Veterans experiencing difficult times.  Keep your eyes and ears open for organizations in your area that you might nominate in the future!

See you in Gillette. Stay safe and thank you for your service.

Summer 2021 Tri-Chapter Rally

Military Veterans, Elks & Fulltimers

CAM-PLEX, Gillette, WY

Arrival: Sunday June 27, 2021

Four days of full hookup camping, socializing, games, touring, and food. A breakfast and two dinners are included. We are also planning on a potluck one night and a welcome night with people bringing hors d’oeuvres to pass.

We realize that the weather in Wyoming is unpredictable at this time of year, so we have arranged for a building for two of the four days.

INTERNATIONAL Area Rally Postponed

After much discussion, the INTO Area Board has concluded that the prudent decision is to postpone the April 2021 Lebanon rally. When we began planning this rally early last year, we had hoped that COVID-19 would only be a memory by this time. The health and well-being of our guests is our top priority and we are not confident that we can conduct a great rally and keep everyone safe. The slow rollout of the vaccine coupled with the increasing loads on hospitals and the fact that most of our Guests are in the high risk category make moving to 2022 the right decision.

We are rescheduling On The Road INTO Lebanon for May 23 to 27, 2022 in Lebanon, TN.

Tri-Chapter Rally!

The Tri-Chapter Rally (Elks International, Full-Timers, Military and Veterans) will be having a rally before Perry.  The dates are February 27 - March 3, 2021.  Visit the 2021 Events page to download the registration/information form.
